چکیده

NE type of viable chromosomal rearrangement frequently induced 0 by X-ray treatment is a translocation in which a piece of a chromosome is taken from its normal position and inserted into some other part of the chromosomal complex. When such a rearrangement is intrachromosoma1 the name “transposition” is applied and when it involves two chromosomes it is called an insertional translocation. A number of transpositions and insertional translocations have been described. In this paper results will be given of studies made of five such cases in which euchromatic segments of the X chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster are inserted into heterochromatic regions. Below is a list of X chromosome genes mentioned in this paper with their location on the linkage map given in parentheses (BRIDGES 1938b) : bi, bifid (6.9); cm, carmine (18.9); ct, cut (20.0); 0, crossveinless (13.7); cx, curlex (13.6); dm, diminutive (4.6); dx, deltex (17.0); ec, echinus fa, facet (3.0); g, garnet (44.4); N , Notch, deficiency for f a (3.0); peb, pebbled (7.3+) pn prune (0.8); rb, ruby (7.5); rg, rugose ( I I . ~ ) , rst, roughest (1.7), T U X ) roughex IS.^), SC, scute (o.o+) ) scp, scooped (18.5 5 ) , shf, shifted (17.9), sn, singed (21.0), vs, vesiculated (16.3), w, white (1 .5) , y, yellow (0.0).

Correction for Zhao et al., "Corepressive Action of CBP on Androgen Receptor Transactivation in Pericentric Heterochromatin in a Drosophila Experimental Model System".

Ligand-bound nuclear receptors (NR) activate transcription of the target genes. This activation is coupled with histone modifications and chromatin remodeling through the function of various coregulators. However, the nature of the dependence of a NR coregulator action on the presence of the chromatin environment at the target genes is unclear. To address this issue, we have developed a modifie...

Immunochemical Analysis of the Effects of Heterochromatic-euchromatic Rearrangements on a Protein in Drosophila Melanogaster

HE introduction of the term heterochromatin by HEITZ (1928) implied the Texistence of chromosomal segments with special properties. Primarily distinguished on the basis of observable heteropycnosis during mitotic and meiotic cycles ( SCHULTZ 1947; WHITE 1948), to such segments have also been attributed distinction of function. Originally this distinction was thought to consist of genetic inacti...

cis-Acting determinants of heterochromatin formation on Drosophila melanogaster chromosome four.

The heterochromatic domains of Drosophila melanogaster (pericentric heterochromatin, telomeres, and the fourth chromosome) are characterized by histone hypoacetylation, high levels of histone H3 methylated on lysine 9 (H3-mK9), and association with heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1). While the specific interaction of HP1 with both H3-mK9 and histone methyltransferases suggests a mechanism for the ...

Is HP1 an RNA detector that functions both in repression and activation?

Heterochromatin is defined as regions of compact chromatin that persist throughout the cell cycle (Heitz, 1928). The earliest cytological observations of heterochromatin were followed by ribonucleotide labeling experiments that showed it to be transcriptionally inert relative to the more typical euchromatic regions that decondense during interphase. Genetic studies of rearrangements that place ...

Evolution of heterochromatic genes of Drosophila.

Heterochromatin is generally associated with gene silencing, yet in Drosophila melanogaster, heterochromatin harbors hundreds of functional protein-encoding genes, some of which depend on heterochromatin for expression. Here we document a recent evolutionary transition of a gene cluster from euchromatin to heterochromatin, which occurred <20 million years ago in the drosophilid lineage. This fi...
